“Mommy makeover” is a term that denotes addressing the two areas that are most changed by pregnancy: the breasts and the abdomen. Sometimes these are treated in one operation and othertimes in two separate operations.
An abdominoplasty is the most frequent procedure done for the mommy makeover because most women develop lax skin and separated muscles as the baby grows inside. Usually, liposuction of the abdomen is inadequate to tighten and create an ideal contour. But liposuction is frequently done together with the tummy tuck in a mommy makeover to improve the adjacent contour of the love handles and the outer thighs.
Most moms wish that their abdominal issues could be taken care of with liposuction alone, since liposuction is a smaller procedure with a shorter recovery than a tummy tuck. If skin quality is good and the issue is just fat, then liposuction can be the perfect procedure. If the problem is more a matter of skin, then a tummy tuck is the preferred procedure.
The tummy tuck can be combined with a breast lift, breast reduction, breast augmentation, or a combination of a breast augmentation and a breast lift.
There has been much discussion about the safety of combining in the same procedure a tummy tuck with breast procedures or with liposuction. Dr. Teitelbaum has lectured on this topic and is familiar with these very important issues.
Moms are staying healthier and more fit later into life than they ever did before. For these women, combining a tummy tuck with a breast procedure can be a dramatic physique-restoring procedure.
