Deciding between neck liposuction and a neck lift can be challenging for patients and plastic surgeons alike. The main reason is that it is difficult to accurately assess the elasticity in skin. After removing fat, the patient usually needs some tightening of the skin after the double chin is removed. No method, including laser liposuction, can produce predictable and documented tightening of the skin.

The most ideal liposuction candidate is a person whose skin is tight, firm, and free from small wrinkles. The worst liposuction candidate would be someone whose skin is loose and hanging.

Liposuction can correct only one thing: excess fat. But if there is loose skin or prominent muscle bands, then a neck lift needs to be done. In a neck lift, the muscles are tightened and skin is removed. Fat can also simultaneously be removed with liposuction if it is in excess.

Dr. Teitelbaum has done many neck lift and neck liposuction cases. He has a great sense of the kind of result each procedure would give to each individual patient, and he articulates this knowledge to his patients. Together, Dr. Teitelbaum helps patients decide which path will be better for them.
